TREF, the Belgian reference for diatonic accordion music, is a group whose name might be taken quite literally. This energetic collective consists of Bruno Le Tron, Didier Laloy and Wim Claeys on diatonic accordion and Frédéric Malempré on percussion. For ten years now, this quartet has been an engine of transgressing musical research concerning Folk Music. After ‘TREF’ and ‘Loop to the moon’, today, TREF proudly presents its third album ‘DAMPF’.

Trois garciers pour un son à la frontière entre la musique trad bretonne et le rap.
Imaginez... un bal breton, métissé de rap avec des textes engagés, ça fait rêver non ?
Pour comprendre la démarche du Beat Bouet Trio il faut remonter aux les années 90, dans la campagne de Ploërmel (Bretagne). Dans le bus scolaire, vous vous souvenez que les sièges du fond étaient toujours occupés par les trois mêmes. Ils faisaient du bruit, écoutaient NTM et Eminem et racontaient des histoires incroyables. On parlait de mobylette, de flirts, de graff et de hip-hop, en français ou en patois. Ben oui, parce que ces trois là, venaient de la campagne et parlaient un langage à eux, entre gallo, français et « US englich ».
Dans les années 2000, ils ont grandi (mais pas trop quand même) et le rap a évolué aussi. Ils chantent des chansons apprises avec leurs pépés, mais sur un son Trap, Rap ou Dancehall. B-Key est à l'accordéon, T Burt au human beat box et Faya Gur à la voix, pour mener un bal hip-hopulaire décalé et intergénérationnel.
Dans le car scolaire, on faisait pas les choses à moitié.

The band Feather and Fox is a Belgian-German Balfolk duo. Victor and Christiane met one summer in Berlin on the banks of the Spree. From the beginning, the duo has played for dancers and is inspired by their energy. Playfully and sensitively, they explore the sound possibilities in the interplay of the twelve strings of mandolin and cello, creating a unique sound that is both light as a feather and driven by energy.

Depuis maintenant 13 ans, environ 500 concerts un peu partout en Europe et 5 albums, Bal O'Gadjo poursuit son travail d'ouverture et de rencontre entre les musiques et chants traditionnels du monde.
Un beau voyage qui alterne habilement chants, improvisations inspirées, mélodies à plusieurs voix, arrangements ciselés et rythmes aux saveurs orientales et moderne.
Forts de leurs nombreuses expériences respectives, les 5 musiciens font converger leurs personnalités musicales dans un concert sans frontières empreint de cultures balkanique et méditerranéenne au service d'un bal folk toujours vivant, créatif et dansant !

Évoquant tour à tour une fête de village crétoise ou un bal sous les étoiles en Ariège, les trois musicien.ne.s de La Sylva t’emmènent dans une tempête de cordes! Entre collectages réarrangés avec soin et compositions à trois voix, on passe des racines à la canopée, du Syrto à la Mazurka, de la douce complicité à la transe débridée ! Un trio à cordes sauvage, et joliment inventif !

This Belgian acoustic duo started out in 2004 and has since received numerous prices and award. Their debut album “Festina Lente” was album of the year by national radio Klara and fROOTS called it “our favourite new album”. After playing the major festivals and touring in France, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Switserland, Senegal, … the Belgian minister of culture even gave them in 2021 the Flemish Folk Award for Best Live Band. In the vibrating Belgian folk scene they are considered the most interesting musical act since they fully exploit that strange “Belgitude” which is sometimes defined as creating an identity out of a non-identity.
On stage they use unexpected instruments like a trumpetviolin, a viola d’amore, a musical saw, a sitar and a one of a kind baszouki which was invented and constructed especially for them. To this they add their polymorphic voices, then rasping, then cristal and silky, sublime. Sometimes it sounds like Goethe married to Tom Waits, sometimes like a Mali blues on a nail box violin, sometimes like french fantasy chanson and sometimes like a baroque viola d’amore in constellation with a fat grooving classical guitar. They radiate a rare madness while maintaining sharp focus on various nomadic melodies. You cannot put a format on them, their music is free and graceful, timeless yet mortal.
Folkworld called them 'one of the most inventive European folk related groups' and their latest album 'The Seven Gardens' reached #4 in the European World Music Charts.
To keep the touring as sustainable as possible, this couple uses the solar power from their off-grid cabin in the Ardens to charge their long range EV packed with instruments. If need be, they can even power their PA with the car. True off-grid folk !

In this workshop, we'll explore and practice smooth leading & following, how to transition from close embrace to variations, how to lead & follow without frictions. In the second part we'll be exploring some ways to improvise on the dancefloor.

- Can I come without a dance partner?
- Yes, please feel welcome to do so.
- I have never danced (folk) before, what now?
- Coming for the first time can be a bit outside of your comfort zone but be assured, no one will judge you on your dancing skills.
There will be an introduction class of 1 hour at 19:30 on Friday, there we'll explain some common dances (hanter-dro, andro, scottisch, jig, bourré 2 times).
Folk dancing is relatively accessible to dance to and don't hesitate to ask some explanation more experienced dancers will be more than happy to show you some steps.
Also, you don't have to dance all night, enjoying the music and watching others dancing can also be delightful. - How can I get there?
- While the Gemeentelijke feestzaal is a bit off the beaten path, it's still easily accessible by public transport. Here's a simple guide to help you plan your journey:

🚗 Coming by car is easy, you should find a parking spot a bit further on the gras on the side of the road or next to the sport hall. Kindly leave the spots in front of the venue for ♫ 🎻musicians 🎸, organization and visitors with limited mobility ♿. - What about sleeping?
- We are still looking for a solution for that in the neighborhood but it ain't an easy task.
- What about food?
- You can pre-order vegetarian lunch & dinner for Saturday and/or Sunday when you register. Apart from that, feel free to bring your own picnic.
